CLASSIC but SIMPLE

A second year student, and the swimming team's manager. He had a traumatic experience involving a creature he describes as a mermaid during his childhood, and after which he has been afraid of swimming ever since. However this scenario started to change after Amuro's arrival at Umishō. Always in trouble due to Amuro's unpredictable behavior, he usually denies his growing feelings for her.

Amuro Ninagawa is a second year student at Umisho and came from Okinawa on a house raft with her father. She's a very skilled swimmer and loves it to swim nude in the ocean, which sometimes leads to trouble. Though she only swims nude with those shes familiar with, especially Kaname, she is on the Umisho swim team. She is very bright and cheerful, along with charming and cute. She may seem clueless, but is a very outgoing person. She also has a large bust, which attracts the boys. She recieved the X's on her head from her grandmother who is lost at sea.

Third year student, and vice-captain of the swimming team. Just after meeting Amuro, she realizes her hidden potential and recruits her to the swimming team, after challenging her to a match and being impressed with her speed in the water. She is the fastest front crawl swimmer on the team and the most serious competitor(though a bit obsessive at times).

Synopsis

Kaname Okiura, a student of Prefectoral Umineko Shougyou High ("Umishou" for short), joined the school's swimming club in order to learn how to swim, but the club is filled with weirdos, let alone who can teach him swimming. Then, a sunny, happy-go-lucky girl named Amuro Ninagawa who transferred from Okinawa joined the club. Her extraordinary underwater speed and unorthodox swimming style (plus her personal habit of nude swimming—a powerful magnet to teenage boys) surprised every club member, especially Okiura, because she reminds him of a mermaid-like creature he saw only once in his early childhood.

Akihiko Kayaba is the Director and Creator of the Nerve Gear and Sword Art Online. He traps all the players within Sword Art Online by using the Nerve Gear to cease sending signals to the users' body. Any attempt at removal, loss of power for a certain period, or if the user dies in the game will also kill the user. His motivation is to observe what happens after he traps them.

She is 13 years old and a middle level dagger user. She is a very cheerful and sweet girl.

She is one of the very rare 'Beast Tamers' in SAO. She has a very rare familiar a 'feathery dragon' that she named Pina after her cat in the real world. She treasured Pina a lot and was the reason she survived in the game. Aside from being a female player, she is also a Beast Tamer and thus perceived as an idol amongst the middle level players. She received endless invitations from parties and guilds who wanted an idol player to join them to get more fame.

Because of the attention she got, she became overly proud of herself and left a party one time after a misunderstanding. She got surrounded by monsters and lost Pina in the end. She was then rescued by Kirito who was passing by and helped her to resurrect the dead familiar.

A young and cheerful girl with long black hair who looks no older than 10 years old. Kirito and Asuna found her in a forest in the 22nd floor of Aincrad. After taking care of her, she appears to have lost her memory. She calls Kirito and Asuna "Papa" and "Mama" due to having trouble pronouncing their names which is a side effect of the memory loss. They decided that they would go and search for her friends in the Starting City.

Asuna is a friend of Kirito and is a sub-leader of the guild Knights of the Blood (KoB), a medium-sized guild of about thirty players, also called the strongest guild in Aincrad. Being one of the few girls that are in SAO, and even more so that she's extremely pretty, she receives many invitations and proposals. She is a skilled player earning the title "Flash" for her extraordinary sword skill that is lightning fast. Her game alias is the same as her real world name.

Kazuto's sister in the real world. She is 15 years old and in her third year of junior high, as well as a member of the Kendo club. She's a diligent worker and has been practicing Kendo for 8 years.

Kirito is the main protagonist of the series. He is a "solo" player, a player who hasn't joined a guild and usually works alone. He is also one of the very few people to have had the privilege to play in the beta testing period of Sword Art Online. His game alias, Kirito, is created by taking the syllables of the first and last Kanji of his real last and first names respectively: (Kirigaya Kazuto). In the real world, he lives with his mother and younger sister in a family of 3.

When Kayaba announced the start of the death game, he is surprised, but unlike everyone else he quickly gets over it and accepts it to an extent. He invited his friend Klein to go with him but Klein had to find his friends in the game. He was invited to join them but he declined as he couldn't take the pressure of protecting them even with his beta testing knowledge of the game.

Synopsis

In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now...

A member of Sanada North High student council. He has an intimidating look that is often mistaken as a delinquent, although he is actually gentle and shy. He maintains a good relationship with his older sister.

A classmate who tends to wear a baseball cap. He lives next door to the Funky High School Girls and is a target of their harrassments, but always has ways to deal with them.

An amateur football player. He also knows a couple special moves. He is the butt of many jokes in the show, and is talked about with ridicule by his classmates even when he is present.

Student Council President of Sanada North High. He lets the vice-president handle most of the student council tasks. Despite his looks and charisma, he is a bit of an idiot.

Student Council Vice-President of Sanada North High. His dyed hair, tanned skin and old appearance are often mistaken for a delinquent, but in reality he is kind and gentle. He does however used to be wild as his appearance suggests, but this changes after he was invited into the student council by the current president.

The Student Council President of Sanada East High. She is full of pride and has a short temper. But she is a bit of an airhead, which leads her to getting tricked very easily, like mistaking Karasawa's snoring for a cat's meow and standing on a step ladder in the Sanada North High Student Council Room to connect an internet cable to a intentionally misplaced router just so the Council could look at her panties from underneath. The Sanada North High Student Council has given her the nickname "Ringo-chan." She's actually popular and is usually hit on, much to her ignorance.

Older sister to Rikka Takanashi. According to Rikka, she is the alleged powerful and overseeing Priestess of the Deep Horizon. She uses a ladle as a weapon against Rikka's crazy antics. It is hinted that she works as a cook.

Yuuta's classmate and friend. He created a "cutie poll" which ranked all the girls in class in terms of cuteness. However, because of this, his head was shaved into a crew cut. Later on he joins Rikka's club and develops a crush on Kumin.

Kumin is Yuuta's senpai who loves adventures, cats, and pillows. She adores any chuunibyous. She was born in October.

A high school boy who used to be a delusional teen, believing himself to be the Dark Flame Master and becoming alienated from everyone as a result. Finding this to be embarrassing, he attempts to erase this past from existence, even choosing to go to a separate high school from all of his junior high school classmates. However, after encountering Rikka, his past delusions come to back to haunt him.

The main heroine, she made a contract with Togashi Yuuta. She is an active Chuunibyou, who still has the syndrome. Her delusional syndrome involves her right eye which she calls it her "Wicked Eye," in which according to her it wields darkness tamed by the power of a pure heart. Actually, her so called "Wicked Eye" is nothing more than a colored contact lens which she conceals underneath an eye-patch. Despite being quite attached to Yuuta, she is cautious of strangers and adapts a battle pose whenever she meets someone for the first time. She is also rather clumsy, often tripping over and forgetting things. She also doesn't have many friends, as shown that in her mobile phone there are only her sister's email.

A beautiful girl in Yuuta's class. Shinka is Yuuta's classmate and class representative, who is also a cheerleader. One of the most popular girls in the class due to her looks, she is generally thought of a kind and gentle girl.


She too suffered a case of eighth-grader syndrome, going by the name of Forest Summer. Like Yuuta, she chose a school that none of her former classmates were going to so she could escape from her embarrassing past.

When she is with Yuuta, Rikka, and the others in the clubroom, her usual happy, sweet demeanor fades and she is blunt, edgy, and tends to fight with Dekomori quite a lot. This is because Dekomori admires Forest Summer (and does not believe Shinka is actually Forest Summer, constantly referring to Shinka as "fake Forest Summer") and has numerous copies of books, consisting of documents that Forest Summer had written, titled Mabinogion. Shinka seeks to destroy every last trace of her past, and Dekomori is a barrier against this, causing frequent fights between them.

A fourteen year old girl. She, like Rikka, is a Chuunibyou. She claims that she is Rikka's servant and wants to take her master's place. Her "power" is Mjolnir, a pair of hair nunchucks. Despite being a Chuunibyou, she is top in her class.

Yuuta Togashi suffered from chuunibyou while he was in middle school. When he graduated, he put that dark history behind him and forgot about it... or he was supposed to. High school was smooth sailing and full of enjoyment—until the unavoidable, sad event occurs. The event that locks Yuuta into a contract with Rikka Takanashi and disrupts his desperately ordinary life.

Nanami is Sorata's classmate. Although she is harsh to Sorata, she actually has a crush on him, and everyone aside from Sorata has noticed this. She escaped from her home to become a voice actress, and has to live on her own.



She meets Sorata's mother in the fifth novel and earns the latter's admiration. Sorata's mother even tells him that she prefer Nanami to be her daughter-in-law. In the sixth novel, she fails the voice actor election, and she decides to reunite with her parents to decide her next step.

Ryuunosuke is the resident of room 102. Ryuunosuke is a second-year student of Suiko. He is a hikikomori who rarely leaves his room, and usually communicates with others with cellphone message or e-mails. To reduce the need to communicate with others, he has written the "Maid" program. He is an expert of computer programming, and contributes lots of useful advice and information to Sorata for the latter's computer game. According to Ryuunosuke, his ultimate goal is to make Maid become a real human.


He has gynophobia, and will even pass out when girls touch him, which becomes worse after Rita falls in love with him and kisses him on the cheek.

Rita was Mashiro's roommate and handler when Mashiro was in England. Despite her being the same age as Sorata and Mashiro, she has a better figure. She was jealous of Mashiro's art talent, and so advised Mashiro to draw manga, but later she regrets this and comes to Japan to bring Mashiro back to England. After realizing Mashiro's determination, she gives up and returns to England with Mashiro's father and starts to study art again. She argues with Ryuunosuke usually.

She falls in love with Ryuunosuke and kisses him on the cheek when leaving, which makes him pass out. While Ryuunosuke is cold to her and keeps letting Maid handle her email, this only provokes her determination and makes her constantly argue with Maid over the Internet. In the fifth novel, she visits Japan again to give Ryuunosuke Valentine's Day chocolate, and catches a chance to kiss him on the lips this time, which makes him pass out again.

Jin is the resident of room 103. Jin is a third-year student of Suiko. He is Misaki's childhood friend and a playboy. He has dated several girls, including Misaki's elder sister, but in the end he breaks up with all of them.


Jin has feelings for Misaki, but he feels he is not good enough to match her, so he ended up becoming a playboy. He finally becomes a couple with Misaki during the fifth novel. He wants to become a playwright, and later attends a university in Osaka to achieve his goal. To pacify Misaki, he gives her a marriage registration form with his signature as a warranty, but Misaki ends up turning it in after his departure on the same day, which makes them officially married.

Mashiro is the female protagonist of the story. She is a the resident of room 202. She is a world famous artist who transferred into Suiko as a second-year to learn how to draw manga. Due to this, Sorata is forced to handle Mashiro's living chores, to the point that he even has to pick out underwear for her, or she will go out without them.

Misaki is the resident of room 201. Misaki is a third-year-student of Suiko who later attends Suimei University of the Arts. She is very outgoing and optimistic. Sorata often refers to her as an "alien". She is very good at making animation and can handle most work in making one without help from others. She has already sold an animation to a famous publishing company and made enough of a fortune for the rest of her life.

Sorata is the male protagonist of the story. He is a second-year student of Suiko, who lives in room 101 of Sakurasou Dormitory. He was kicked out of the standard school dorm after he chose not to throw away a stray cat he picked up. As many of the Sakurasou Dormitory residents have outstanding grades and art skills, he often feels plain and normal among them. He is chosen by Chihiro to take care of Mashiro's daily life, although he resists at first, but he ends up getting used to it.

The school romantic comedy revolves around a second-year high school student named Sorata Kanda who lives in Sakurasou, the dormitory for problem children at Sorata's school. One day, Mashiro Shiina—a cute girl who happens to be also a cosmopolitan, brilliant artist—moves into Sakurasou.

Sorata thinks to himself that he should protect Mashiro from the weirdos at Sakurasou, but Mashiro has a surprising secret: she has no idea how to take care of herself. She gets lost if she goes out, and her room is a complete mess. Sorata's dorm mates designate him as the "master" of Mashiro, and thus, an ordinary boy and a brilliant girl must live like "a master and his pet."

Switch (スイッチ) is the brains and secretary to the Sket-Dan. He is an otaku (no matter how many times he denies it) that has information about EVERYONE in Kaimei-high. Switch appears to be the most serious of the group but his fooling around says other wise. He also has a strong belief in Science which is shown through his rivalry against Occult lover, Yuuki Reiko. The most unique thing about Switch is that he talks through a computer which is most likely due to Psychological trauma.

Himeko (ヒメコ) is the violent "yankee"-girl with a soft spot for cute things. She is the fighter/ brawn to the Sket-Dan. In her past she was called "Legendary Yankee Onihime (鬼姫)" which became a symbol of "power and fear". Himeko seems to now have "calmed down" from her days of being the Onihime and has become the second-chief to the Sket-Dan.

When talking about his special traits, the sket-dan tends to break the fourth wall, saying how he has nothing unique for a shounen main character. He is an amazing artist and has a bunch of expressions that are easy to read.

He is determined to help his clients and will do it to the best of his abilities. Whenever the sket-dan realizes that Bossun isn't needed he goes into a lazy, depressed state.

Ritsu (or Ricchan, as nicknamed by Yui) is the self-proclaimed president of the light music club and plays a yellow Rick Marotta Signature Yamaha Hipgig drum kit with an add-on floor tom (in the opening credits only) combined with a cymbal set from Avedis Zildjian,though is shown playing a white Yamaha Absolute Series drumkit in the anime's closing credits.She has an ambiguous yet upbeat personality, much like Yui, but often has trouble remembering important club activities and announcements and gets constantly rebuked by Mio and Nodoka for forgetting to send in important forms concerning the club. Ritsu is cheerful, often likes making jokes and is sarcastic most of the time. She is skilled at brainstorming ideas that earn money for the club. Ritsu has shoulder-length, brown hair, with her bangs pulled back with a yellow hairband, and gold-colored eyes. She wears her school jacket open. She says she chose to play the drums because they are "cool", but she then admits that she has trouble playing instruments which involve intricate finger movements, such as the bass, guitar and keyboard.

She is a childhood friend of Mio and will often take the opportunity to tease her whenever Mio is cowering from something. She is also known to become easily jealous of Mio's other high school friends, even going as far as spying on Mio when on outings with them. Ritsu is always on the go and will stop at nothing for the success of the light music club. Despite her rough mannerisms and speech, she gets cast as Juliet by the majority of her classmates in their class play rendition of Romeo and Juliet and, in the end, manages to act like a proper girl. In the anime, she states her favorite drummer is Keith Moon of The Who. She is skilled at cooking. She has a younger brother named Satoshi.

Mio is a shy girl who is in the light music club. She plays a left-handed, 3-Color Sunburst Fender Jazz Bass with a tortoiseshell pickguard, though is shown playing a Fender Precision Bass in the first manga volume. She uses D'Addario EXL160M medium bass strings. Her bass is given the name Elizabeth later in the anime. While she originally intended to join the literary club, she was forced into the light music club by her childhood friend and the club's president/drummer, Ritsu. She gets excellent grades in school and is often mature and strict especially where Ritsu is involved; her weakness is the macabre and horrific, and she is often incapacitated with fear when stories involving ghosts, blood, injuries, haunted houses, barnacles or other disturbing topics come up. She also has a fear of being in the spotlight and gets embarrassed easily, and is often subject to teasing from Ritsu and Sawako, their club adviser and eventual third-year homeroom teacher. Mio has long, straight black hair and gray eyes (that are angled slightly more than the other characters). She cites that she chose bass since it is not the center of attention in the band, unlike the guitarist. Mio is more technical when it comes to music, and Yui often comes to her when she is in need of more guitar tutorials.

Along with Yui, Mio is one of the band's main vocalists, though given her dislike of being center stage, she tries to avoid taking the lead vocal if possible, generally singing if Yui is unable to. She writes most of the songs, although they usually feature some odd and overly girlish lyrics like "Light and Fluffy Time". As she is left-handed, she becomes entranced whenever she sees left-handed instruments, because of their rarity. After their first live performance, the attractive Mio gained a huge fan following (in no small part due to an unfortunate accident that occurred at the end of the show), led by an infatuated former student council president. Also resulting from her sudden popularity, most of her classmates voted that she portray Romeo in their class play. Mio comes to greatly enjoy her time at university as she encounters many new experiences She is also able to overcome some of her shyness and make new friends such as Sachi and Ayame.

Azusa is a new student who joins the light music club and plays a Fender Mustang electric guitar but she is also in possession of a Gibson Les Paul Custom 50th Anniversary Gold Top (as seen in episode 13). A self-proclaimed novice guitarist who has been playing the guitar since the fourth grade and whose parents are working in a jazz band. She is in the same year and class as Ui and has quite a mysterious demeanor. She often finds herself bewildered by the tea parties and cosplaying aspects of the club, when she would rather just practice and is curious on how the club is able to play so well despite their problems and lack of practice. However, she has a certain weakness for cakes and can be calmed down rather easily, sometimes by just being petted. She could be described in part as a tsundere. She is constantly hugged by Yui and is nicknamed Azu-nyan after trying on a pair of cat ears and meowing. In the band, she looks up to Mio the most due to her maturity and the fact that she is an experienced bassist. Since joining, Yui comes to her for advice on playing guitar, as well as maintenance.

Main character, guitarist, lead vocalist. Having misunderstood that "light music" equals "easy music" (like whistling), she joined the Light Music Club and picked up guitar with absolutely no prior experience. She is the type of person who doesn't read manuals and relies on her own intuition and self taught approaches.

Yui is a girl who's easily distracted by cute things and tasty food. She's a crybaby but cheers up easily if she gets some sweets. She eats a lot of sweets but she does not gain as much as she eats, she said to herself. In many ways some may say she's a child, and making sure she practices is a problem. When Yui takes good care of something, like her electric guitar- Gitah, she sleeps with it, plays dress up with it, and even also have tea time with it. When she wants to remember something, she forgets everything else. Yui's energy seems to come from cake. She is a clumsy, scatterbrain but optimistic and kind-hearted.

Yui gets good grades in school but is easily distracted by trivialities. She has her younger sister Ui, who is very mature and acts as the "older sister" of Yui, to take care of her and keep herself in line. She has a very easy-going nature, but has incredible concentration when hyped, though this is only limited to 3-4 subjects at a time. Despite all her flaws, Yui is still a fundamentally good-hearted girl who openly expresses love with hugs, holding hands and adorable nicknames (most notably "Azu-nyan" for Azusa), and once devoted to something she is loyal to a fault, and can display near-genius levels of competence to the subject of devotion, as shown by her perfect score in the makeup exams to return to the band. She has perfect pitch and thus can tune her guitar by ear flawlessly. She is the group's main vocalist, although she is known to forget her lyrics in mid-performance, as well as overdoing things, making her unable to perform sometimes. She is the sort of person who learns by being shown, rather than by having read about it. Yui shows this lack of technical knowledge when she does not know what a palm mute or vibrato is when Azusa suggests the use of one when teaching her, but could use one in her music.

Tsumugi, often referred to as 'Mugi' by her friends, is a wealthy girl with a gentle and sweet personality who plays a Korg Triton Extreme 76-key keyboard, though she is also seen playing a Korg RK-100 keytar in the closing credits of the first season. She originally intended to join the choir club, but joins the light music club instead after receiving an invitation and encouragement from both Mio and Ritsu.Tsumugi is considered a piano prodigy since she has been playing the piano since she was four and has experience in winning various piano contests. Mugi has long, pale blonde hair, blue eyes, unusually large eyebrows, which apparently run in her family and a fair complexion that the other characters do not have, but she does not get sunburned. She is the daughter of a company president, and her family has several villas in various places around Japan (and even one in Finland).Since her father also owns a maid café, she often brings confectionery and an assortment of sweets and pastries to the club room, and she diligently makes tea with a tea set which is kept in their club room. Despite her wealth, she is fascinated by and finds joy in "normal" activities, such as ordering fast food, sharing french fries with her club mates,holding down part-time jobs and haggling over prices.Tsumugi displays a rebellious streak occasionally, diverting from her normally well-behaved and mature demeanor to the surprise of the others. She also displays a childlike eagerness from time to time, and possesses unusually high strength, being able to effortlessly carry around her own keyboard, Ritsu's drums, amplifiers, and at one point beating an arm-wrestling game in an arcade.

Tsumugi is often entranced by the sight of two girls interacting closely together, sometimes imagining something more risqué in her head. The series sometimes indicates that Mugi has a crush on their teacher, Sawako Yamanaka. While a lot of things do not bother her, she is fairly conscious about her weight (just like Mio), and she gets a bit anxious when her family's staff start spoiling her friends during villa visits. She later begins learning how to play the guitar from Azusa. Tsumugi has a childhood friend several years younger than her named Sumire Saitō who is a daughter of the family that serves the Kotobuki household. Tsumugi grew up home schooled, and therefore spent very little time in the outside world. Because of their close friendship Sumire would purchase everyday items like manga for Tsumugi that she was not normally allowed to see. Tsumugi was rather taken by some of the yuri manga she received which may have influenced her later perceptions about relationships. When Sumire started high school, Tsumugi wanted her to experience the light music club on her own, but due to Sumire's shyness Tsumugi came up with the excuse to send her to the club room to pick up the tea sets that had been left there and told Sawako when Sumire did join that it was okay to leave the tea sets there.

Makoto Ito is a young Japanese high school student beginning his second term at the fictional Sakakino Academy. During his daily train rides to and from school, he becomes infatuated with fellow student Kotonoha Katsura; a girl that also commutes. When a new classmate acquaintance of his, Sekai Saionji, discovers his secret crush on Kotonoha, she helps introduce both of them to each other and over time they grow closer and agree to date. However in spite of her proud and triumphant matchmaking efforts, Sekai inadvertently becomes jealous of the new couple, having also developed feelings toward Makoto.

The following afternoon on her way home at the nearby train station in front of the school, Sekai finds Makoto waiting for Kotonoha to rendezvous for a date. He sits with her and reiterates his appreciation for her help, and feeling heavily indebted, offers repayment anyway he can. Though she believes he is overreacting, Sekai decides to redeem her obligation by placing a kiss on his lips as her train pulls in; quickly rushing into an open passenger car and happily bidding a dumbstruck Makoto luck on his date.

Furuya's not interested in the living, he's got zombies on the brain! When Furuya's cat dies, he decides he's going to try and bring it back to life. In the process, he stumbles across a girl who is involved in an accident and turns into a real zombie! What's Furuya going to do now that the thing he loves the most is right in front of his eyes?

It's the final year of high school for Yui Hirasawa, Ritsu Tainaka, Mio Akiyama, and Tsumugi Kotobuki, the founding members of the Light Music Club. Together with their junior member, Azusa Nakano, they spend their days after school in the music room enjoying tea and sweets and practicing music. Amidst band practice, preparations for the new student orientation performance, scouting for new members, and student responsibilities, they still have time for "After School Tea Time".

Hirasawa Yui, a young, carefree girl entering high school, has her imagination instantly captured when she sees a poster advertising the ‘Light Music Club’. Being the carefree girl that she is, she quickly signs up. However, Yui has a problem, she is unable to play an instrument.

When Yui goes to the clubroom to explain, she's greeted by the other members: Ritsu, Mio and Tsumugi. Although disheartened at Yui’s lack of musical know-how, they still try to convince her to stay to prevent the club’s disbandment. After playing Yui a short piece which re-ignites her imagination, they succeed in keeping their new member and guitarist.

Along with the tasks of school and homework, Yui begins to learn the guitar with the help of the other band members, experiencing many mishaps along the way. However, with the school-festival drawing near and Yui getting stuck with her practice, will the Light Music Club be ready in time for their debut?

The manga focuses on the misadventures of the "Campus Support Group" or "Sket-Dan", of Kaimei Gakuen, a club devoted to solving any and all problems brought to it by the staff or student body for the general improvement of campus life. Due to its general lack of meaningful assignments and unglamorous 'group of handymen' reputation the organization is treated with widespread contempt and it is composed of only three members.
